Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder due to impaired insulin secretion which requires long-term treatment. Rational use of drugs is very important for patients with diabetes mellitus because patients must receive special monitoring to control blood glucose levels. This study aims to get an overview of the rationality of using antidiabetic drugs in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus based on the right indication, right drug, right dose and right patient. This research is a non-experimental study with retrospective data collection. The sampling technique used was total sampling and analysed descriptively. The study was conducted using medical record instruments for type 2 DM patient’s outpatients from May to July 2022 with a total sample of 38 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that the highest pattern of antidiabetic drug use was OAD monotherapy 47.5%, combination 2 OAD 47.5% and combination 3 OAD 5%. Accuracy results based on the right indication, right drug, right dose and right patient are 100%. The conclusion of this study is that the use of anti-diabetic drugs at Bendan Pekalongan Hospital is said to be all right and has received rational treatment according to Perkeni 2021 standards.
