PENINGKATAN DAYA TUTUP CAT TEMBOK EMULSI YANG MEMENUHI STANDAR SNI KARENA KELUHAN KONSUMEN DI PT. XXX

Abstract

Penelitian ini betujuan untuk meningkatkan daya tutup cat tembok yang mendapat keluhan dari pelanggan di PT. XXX sehingga kualitasnya memenuhi standar mutu SNI. Pada penelitian pada basis 1 ditambahkan TiO2 dengan variasi kadar yaitu 4%, 6%, 8%, 10% dan 12% dan basis 2 ditambahkan Kaolin dengan variasi kadar 7%, 9%, 11%, 13% dan 15%. Masing-masing varian dilakukan proses pembuatan cat tembok. Setelah selesai, lalu dilakukan uji menurut SNI yang meliputi uji kualitatif yaitu keadaan dalam kemasan, sifat pengulasan, kestabilan dalam penyimpanan dan sifat lapisan kering, ketahanan terhadap alkali, dan uji kuantitatif yaitu daya tutup, density, kehalusan, waktu pengeringan, padatan total, kekentalan, pH, logam berat, ketahanan terhadap cuaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan beberapa varian memberikan daya tutup memenuhi SNI, yaitu varian TiO2 8% : 8,93 m2/L (warna cerah) dan 15,15 m2/L (warna gelap), TiO2 10% : 10,20 m2/L (warna cerah) dan 17,25  m2/L (warna gelap), TiO2 12% : 10,99 m2/L (warna cerah)  dan 19,23 m2/L (warna gelap) dan varian dengan Kaolin 15% : 8,40 m2/L (warna cerah) dan 15,63 m2/L (warna gelap), sedang hasil uji yang lain juga  sudah memenuhi SNI.
